About Us
Beyond piggy banks: real business education for curious kids
When Lisa Sutherland started searching for resources to help her curious 9-year-old daughter explore entrepreneurship, she hit a wall. Sure, there were plenty of piggy banks and allowance trackers, but where were the tools that actually taught kids about business?
As a mom who believes in preparing children for the real world, Lisa was frustrated by the gap between what kids were learning about money and what they'd actually need to know as adults. After all, managing an allowance is great – but what about understanding profit, recognizing opportunities, or thinking like an entrepreneur?
Why We're Different
Here's what clicked for Lisa: we teach kids about the solar system without expecting them to become astronauts in 4th grade. We introduce them to history, science, and literature because exposure to big ideas shapes how they think. So why should business education be any different?
Kids might not be launching startups tomorrow, but they can absolutely grasp the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, creative problem-solving, and strategic thinking. These aren't just "business skills" – they're life skills that build confidence and open minds to possibilities.
Our Founder's Story
Lisa brings both personal passion and professional expertise to Mintro. As a mom, she understands the challenge of finding age-appropriate resources that actually engage kids. As a professional with a B.S. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, she knows what foundational concepts will serve children throughout their lives.
But most importantly, Lisa believes that every child – regardless of their future path – deserves to understand how the world of business and entrepreneurship works. Whether your child dreams of being an artist, a teacher, a scientist, or yes, an entrepreneur, these skills will serve them well.
Our Mission
Mintro exists to bridge the gap between basic money lessons and real-world business understanding. We're here to give kids ages 8-14 the tools, confidence, and creative thinking skills they'll carry into whatever future they choose.
We believe business education should be hands-on, engaging, and accessible to every child. Because the goal isn't to create tiny CEOs – it's to raise confident, capable kids who understand how to turn ideas into reality.
What's Next
Mintro is just getting started, and we're excited about what's ahead. As we grow, we'll continue listening to parents and kids to create the resources that truly make a difference. Because every child deserves to dream big and have the tools to make those dreams happen.
